Reduce the crime risk
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
With the start of the long summer holidays, most schools right across Newtownabbey are likely to be vacant over the months of July and August.
With this in mind local police are asking for the community’s help in preventing and reducing the incidents of vandalism and theft occurring on school property.
Local community safety officer Sergeant Watton said: “Local people can be our eyes and ears by reporting any activity in school premises and on school grounds at times they would expect no one to be about.
“Any damage caused takes money away from the essential task of schools, and that is to provide the best education possible for our children.”
School Watch schemes have been shown to reduce vandalism over the long summer holidays and the police message is ‘Don’t let vandals wreck schools’.
Anyone who sees anything unusual or anyone acting suspiciously on school premises especially during holiday periods should contact police at Newtownabbey 0845 600 8000.
