Making waves at Templemore
Wednesday, 2 July 2008
BBC star Stephen Nolan helped Templemore Amateur Swimming Club (TASC) make a splash - by launching a 25-hour charity swimathon.
He was joined by former Lord Mayor of Belfast Jim Rodgers in backing the event, which aims to raise £25,000 to help fund research into asthma.
TASC is based at the oldest pool in Ireland on east Belfast’s Templemore Avenue and this year will mark its 25th anniversary with the swimathon on November 1 and 2.
Gary Proctor chairman of the club said: “We need to raise £8 for every minute of the swimathon to realise our ambitious target.
“A few weeks ago I heard Councillor Rodgers challenging Stephen on-air to a swim. We felt that the two were a perfect fit to launch our Swimathon.”
Stephen Nolan added: “I hope it will be the biggest fundraiser in the country.”
