CT Thought for the Week

Tuesday, 1 July 2008

A church congregation presented its minister with a medal for humility but when he proudly wore it they took it off him!

Humility is the foundation of all virtues. The once boastful Apostle Peter learnt humility the hard way when he denied that he knew Jesus. Later he wrote: “Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” [1 Peter 5:5-6]

The life of Jesus can be summed up in three words. “He humbled Himself.” The rest of the verse reads as follows, “and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”.

If He humbled Himself, who am I to ride my high horse?! [Philippians 2:8]
