Wine of the week: Piedmont Chardonnay
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
A fresh, crisp, elegantly fruity style of unoaked Chardonnay with lemon and lime character and a hint of peach. The finish is refreshing and tangy.
Piedmont, in the north-west of Italy, is famous for its fine wines, not only the rich reds, but the well-balanced, subtle whites too.
Serve lightly chilled. This wine makes a mouth-watering aperitif, so enjoy it on its own, or pair it with light fish like grilled trout, or simply prepared fresh seafood, or vegetarian pasta dishes.
Enjoy this wine while it is young and vibrant. Open within three months of purchase and once started, finish in two days, keeping the resealed bottle in the fridge between servings.
