Space dedicated to emerging talent
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
Local artists, musicians and designers were out in force at the launch of a new exhibition and work space in Belfast recently.
BLICK is the name of this new creative venture, and artists and designers are already using studio space in the Malone Road building, including jewellery designer Catherine B and textile designer, Rachel Hutchinson.
“It has always been my dream to create a space dedicated to showcasing emerging talent in everything from digital design, new media and film to art, photography, fashion, textiles and everything in between,” says BLICK founder Christine James.
“The public support has been amazing and I can't believe that people all over Belfast are already talking about the studios.”
Among those funding the venture is Belfast City Council, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment's Building Sustainability Prosperity Programme and the University of Ulster.
The building, at 51 Malone Road, is also home to other creative businesses and individuals including visual artist Lisa Conlon and graphic designer Barrie Holden.
