Parks are alive with music
Thursday, May 08, 2008
It is a case of “the parks are alive with music” this summer in Belfast as
Belfast City Council launched its annual ‘Music in the Parks’ programme last
week.
“The summer of music kicks off with the Festival of Champions band concert
in south Belfast’s Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park on Sunday, May 11, where
the Cambridge House Grammar School Band, East Antrim Accordion Orchestra,
Ballylone Flute Band and the 1st Old Boys’ Silver Band will be performing,”
said a council spokeswoman.
“There will also be a display of vintage and classic cars from the Morris
Minors Owners Club Northern Ireland, from 12.30pm to 5.30pm, along with
children’s entertainment.”
From then on in, various parks throughout Belfast will have music most
weekends, including a few evening performances, from more than 80 bands,
until September.
“All the performances are free and visitors can enjoy everything from brass
to flute bands, accordion, concert or pipe bands or relax to Irish
traditional, soft rock, blues and jazz performances,” said the spokeswoman.
“A grand finale concert will mark the end of Music in the Park programme on
Sunday, September 7, back in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.”
