Weir hits out at old school vandalism
Wednesday, 18 June 2008
Councillor Peter Weir has condemned the “mindless vandalism” of a disused Bangor school last week.
A number of windows were damaged during the incident at Bangor Academy which took place on Sunday, June 8.
Mr Weir called on anyone who sees suspicious activity in and around public buildings to contact the police “so that they can deal with the problem as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid serious damage being done”.
“I would also urge the public to contact the police with any information that they may have concerning this wanton destruction and the people behind this attack,” Mr Weir said.
A police spokesman said: “Police have previously received reports of criminal damage at this old property and the area is given passing attention.
“A referral has been made to follow this matter up with the school authority for further action.”
Police said a proactive investigation was under way and they appealed to the local Bangor community for information.
