North Down Museum is hosting a special exhibition of Percy French
memorabilia this month as part of the celebrations for the Percy French
Society’s 25th Anniversary.
Deputy Mayor of North Down, Councillor Wesley Irvine, officially opened the
exhibition on Friday, May 2, before hosting a reception for members of the
Percy French Society at Bangor Town Hall.
He said: “North Down Borough Council has enjoyed a close connection with the
Percy French Society since it was formed in 1983. We provided sponsorship
for the first of the annual festivals in 1984 and have, of course, housed
many valuable artefacts and paintings at North Down Museum for some years.
“North Down Borough Council is proud of its association with the Percy
French Society over the past 25 years and would wish all the members every
success as they plan for the next 25.”
The Percy French Anniversary Exhibition has been compiled by Heather
McGuicken from Northern Ireland Museums Council, and will tour a number of
sites in Northern Ireland.
Ian Wilson, North Down Museum manager, commended her work saying: “Over the
past 25 years the Percy French Society has amassed a superb collection of
memorabilia that provides an excellent insight into the poet, his work and
his life.
“In putting together this exhibition Heather has been meticulous in her
research and added to our body of knowledge.”
The Percy French Anniversary Exhibition will be on display in North Down
Museum until May 25. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from
10.30am-4.30pm and Sunday from 2.00pm-4.30pm. For more information contact
