Assisi campaign to ensure Marley has life saving op

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

ASSISI Animal Sanctuary has launched an urgent appeal to raise money for Marley, a 10-month-old golden labrador who is in need of a life saving operation.

A blockage in his heart means Marley needs a shunt fitted to bridge a gap in his heart. The operation and relevant after care is estimated to cost £2,000.

A spokesperson for Assisi said: “At nine-weeks-old Marley’s defect was discovered and he was presented to a local vets to be euthanised. They were unable to do it and contacted us and he has been in our care ever since.

“He does not know he is sick but we have been monitoring his condition. Up until now he has been like a normal puppy, but his condition is dramatically deteriorating and he has outgrown his heart.”

So far the sanctuary has raised £15,000. Marley’s operation will be carried out at Earlswood Veterinary Clinic and is preliminary scheduled for May 20.

The spokesperson continued: “We had hoped that Marley’s heart would have repaired itself. We are all devastated but have every confidence in the team at Earlswood. We would just like to say thank you for all the local support we have received so far.”

If you would like to donate to Marley’s cause or find out more information contact Assisi on 9181 2622.
