Popular BBC show comes to Greyabbey

A local antiques centre has shown its flair for good antiques and fine art
by featuring on a popular television show.
Hoops Square in Greyabbey recently became the scene for BBC One’s hit
antique show Bargain Hunt, the game show about buying and selling antiques
for profit.
Presenter Tim Wonnacott and the Bargain Hunt team descended on Hoops Square
last Friday, May 9.
Bargain Hunt sees two teams of two contestants with a budget of £300 to
spend in an antiques fair. The show tests the contestants’ knowledge as they
must buy things which they can then sell for auction a few weeks later.
Sam Miller, an antique dealer in Hoops Square, said: “We were contacted a
few months ago and a producer came over to see the square and assess its
suitability for the show.
“Hoops is a very popular antique centre for local antique and art dealers
and it was great to be recognised by Bargain Hunt.
“It was a long day as filming took place from 8am until 5pm. The team from
Bargain Hunt brought over four teams and filmed two episodes,” he said.
“They were very pleased with everything they found here and made several
purchases.”
Among the items bought by the eagle eyed teams were a silver Tiffany cake
slice and some old stone bottles, made by Belfast firms.
Sam concluded: “Everyone at Hoops was delighted and excited to take part in
the show.”
The items will be auctioned on June 19, at Ross’s Fine Art Auctioneers in
Belfast.
The two programmes featuring Hoops in Greyabbey will be aired in the Autumn.
