Tourist centre comes up trumps
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
Tourism in Ards has received a boost after the local tourist information centre was commended in the latest Northern Ireland tourist awards.
One of only three such centres to be shortlisted in the annual awards made by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the Ards Tourist Information Centre and Ards Crafts was praised by the judging panel for “high levels of customer service”, “an extensive range of literature and innovative podcasts which ensure the rich culture and heritage of the area are communicated to visitors” and “an excellent range of local crafts”.
The centre is no stranger to accolades, having held a Charter Mark since 2000, but the latest recognition for the high standards of customer service is also extremely important, according to the Mayor of Ards, Councillor Jim Fletcher.
“Good customer care is not something that you achieve and then forget about. It’s an on-going commitment to ensuring that you listen to your customers, act on their needs and continually improve your service,” said Councillor Fletcher.
“For the tourism and crafts team in Ards, that means not just offering a warm welcome and timely information to visitors, but also supporting our local tourism industry and showcasing the area through a quality events programme.
“The council is delighted that one of its services performs so well and so consistently and my congratulations go to all the staff.”
Ards Tourist Information Centre and Ards Crafts, located at 31 Regent Street, Newtownards, opened in 1996 and provides a range of services for visitors and locals alike.
