Christian Heritage Trail launched
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
This July sees the launch of Bangor’s Christian Heritage Trail with Bangor Abbey just one of the sites of interest set to open its doors to the general public.
As part of the trail interpretive signage has been erected at three key sites in the town that have played an important role in the spread of Christianity not only in North Down and Ireland but throughout Europe too.
The sites are Bangor Abbey, First Bangor Presbyterian Church and St Columbanus Church of Ireland.
The trail is an integral part of the wider Northern Ireland Tourist Board St Patrick’s Trail signature project.
In addition to the sites being open during the week, a Christian Heritage Tour is taking place on Saturday, August 2, covering the boroughs Christian history from Holywood down to Ballyholme.
The tour will take the form of a guided bus tour.
