Police launch murder inquiry
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
Detectives in North Down have launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of a man's body at a guesthouse in Princetown Road, Bangor.
It was discovered shortly after 7.30am on Tuesday morning.
It is believed the man was stabbed and beaten to death.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Debbie McMaster said: “It is believed this man was assaulted and stabbed in the early hours of this morning.
“However a post mortem examination is due to be carried out to establish the exact cause of death.
“As part of our enquiries, the investigation team will be speaking to witnesses who were staying at the guesthouse, however, we would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Princetown Road anytime between 10pm last night until 7.30am this morning.
“You may have seen something or heard something that will help detectives with their enquiries.”
Councillor Alex Easton described the incident as a “double whammy” for the people of Bangor following a body find in Braeside Close last week.
He said: “This is a double whammy for the local community and the manner of this man’s death in such a brutal fashion is unacceptable.
“I condemn those behind it and hope they are brought to justice and jailed for life.
“I pass on my condolences to the man’s family.”
Councillor Easton, who is also chairman of North Down DPP, called on anyone with information to pass it onto police.
They can do so by contacting police in Bangor on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
