Summer league set to kick-off

Tuesday, 1 July 2008

Football fever will hit Castlereagh this summer when the Tesco Football Summer League kicks off at Belvoir Activity Centre from Friday, July 18.

Sponsored by Tesco and organised by Castlereagh Borough Council in association with the IFA, the league is aimed at children aged six to nine-years-old who live within the borough and wish to enter a fun five-a-side football competition.

The league is open to both boys and girls and will run for seven weeks on Friday evenings from 6.30pm until 8.30pm for children aged six to seven-years-old and on Saturday mornings from 10am until 12noon for children aged eight to nine-years-old.

The aim of the league is to encourage youth within the borough to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle to combat childhood obesity and offer health and well being opportunities in conjunction with the government’s ‘Investing for Health’ strategy. It is also hoped that the league will promote a greater community spirit and help occupy children throughout the school holidays.

The entry fee is £5 per team and bookings are currently being taken by Belvoir Activity Centre.
