Local team launch ‘Time bomb’ leaflet

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

A local group that tackles issues relating to drugs and alcohol has teamed up with a group of Belfast pupils to unravel the myths surrounding solvent abuse.

FASA, located on the Shankill Road, and pupils from the BELB’s St Vincent’s Centre released a ‘Time bomb’, an innovative leaflet designed to highlight the dangers of glue-sniffing and other forms of drug-taking. The leaflet will be distributed to schools and community organisations in the city.

Brian Davey, teacher-in-charge, said: “The leaflet was designed by young people for young people, to raise awareness regarding the issues surrounding solvent abuse and convey the dangers inherent in their use. The pamphlet is designed to look like a solvent tin illustrating the dangers of solvent abuse as well as the reasons why and where young people abuse solvents.”

Jim Weir, intervention team leader with FASA, said: “The idea is to get young people to think of their own health, the health of others and the short and long term effects of solvent abuse.”

Copies of the leaflet can be obtained from FASA, phone 9080 3040.
