Local MLAs and staff at the Andersonstown Road Sinn Fein office held a barbecue last week, continuing fundraising efforts to increase awareness of ovarian cancer.

The group braved the rain to hold the barbecue at Connelly House to raise money for the Angels of Hope charity. The event was attended by the charity founder, Maureen Clarke.
Speaking to The CT, Sue Ramsey MLA said: “We have now held a number of these events and plan to hold more in the future. It is a pity about the weather but if we help one person who was previously unaware about the disease then the event has been worth it.
“Along with my party colleagues we hope to raise this issue in the Assembly and ensure more women are aware of the signs.”
Mrs Clarke continued: “I recently organised a conference for GPs to launch awareness of the disease that is known as the silent killer. This was given 100 percent backing. We need to ensure all women have knowledge of this disease. I just want to thank everyone who has helped the charity raise awareness and funds.”
